Paying For a New System
A system replacement is one of the larger unplanned expenses a house hands you, and it usually arrives at the worst possible moment. Here is the order we think you should work through it.
Rebates first
Before financing anything, find out what you do not have to pay. In this area a qualifying heat pump project can pull meaningful money from regional and utility programs, and the federal tax credit stacks on top of that. It is the cheapest dollar in the whole project because it never has to be paid back.
We keep a current rundown of which programs are open — including the two large ones that are fully reserved right now, so you do not budget around money that is not there.
Then the honest repair-or-replace question
Plenty of contractors quote a replacement on a system that has years left. We would rather fix what can be fixed — a 90-day warranty on a $400 repair beats selling you a system you did not need.
The flat $85 diagnostic exists to make that call on evidence. You get the failure, the repair price, and the replacement price, and you decide.
Spreading the cost
If replacement is the right answer and the timing is not, call and ask what we can arrange. We will give you a straight answer on the phone instead of routing you into a credit application to find out.

Do you offer financing?
Call (925) 433-6400 and ask — we will tell you exactly what we can arrange rather than sending you through an application to find out. We would also rather walk you through the rebate side first, because that is money that does not have to be paid back.
Should I repair or replace?
The rough test is age plus refrigerant type plus repair cost. A system under about ten years old with a normal parts failure is worth repairing. A system fifteen or more years old running R-22, facing a compressor or coil repair, generally is not — R-22 is no longer produced or imported in the US, so recharges get more expensive each year. We will give you both numbers and let you decide.
Can I replace just the outdoor unit to save money?
Sometimes, but it is often false economy. The outdoor condenser and the indoor coil are a matched pair; mismatching them costs efficiency, can void the manufacturer warranty, and on older systems the refrigerant types are simply incompatible. We will tell you when a partial replacement genuinely works.
What is the cheapest thing I can do right now?
Change the filter, clear the outdoor coil, and get the system tuned before the season it has to work in. That is not a sales answer — most of the emergency calls we run were preventable maintenance, and a tune-up costs a fraction of a compressor.
